Richard W. McAfee, 88, of Independence, MO passed away April 15, 2023. Visitation will be 8:30-10:00 a.m. Friday April 21, 2023 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church 611 N. Liberty St., Independence, MO 64050. Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. Burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to: The Salvation Army 2627 Broadway Kansas City, MO 64111.
Richard was born September 20, 1934 in Ripley, OH to Hubert McAfee & Geneivieve (Schroth) Strong. He grew up in Ripley, OH and went into the Army, where he served in the Korean War. Once out of the service he settled in Independence, MO where he met his wife of 56 years, Julia H. (Camerlinck) McAfee. He was in the 82nd and 101st Airborne in the United States Army, a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus as well as a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the American Legion.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Julia, stepchildren: Elizabeth Cook, Rose Killon, Joseph Camerlink; grandchildren: Dennis Williams, Bernard Lindsey; nephew: Brian Bradford; great-nephew: Joseph Blum.
Richard is survived by his sister: Jeanie Bradford (Sonny); niece: Jodi Bradford Blum; great nieces: Kaitlyn Blum, Breanna Blum all of Ripley, OH; step children: Bernard Camerlinck (Donna) 2 children, 4 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren: Robert Camerlink (Patricia) 3 children, 7 grandchildren., grandchildren: Michael Williams, Annette Lindsey, Richard Lindsey (Dannette), Julia Forbis along with numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and several cousins.
