Robert E. Matney Sr.


Robert Eugene Matney Sr, 82, of Blue Springs, MO, husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend, passed peacefully on Friday, February 12, 2021.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on March 27, 2021 at the Sheet Metal Workers International Association, 2902 Blue Ridge Blvd. Kansas City, MO 64129 from 11am – 4 pm.

He was the only son of Jesse F. and Mary Deslean Matney, born May 15, 1938 in Kansas City, MO.

A member of Teamsters Local #41, he was an over the road truck driver for more than 30 years and served as a Business Agent for a few years. Robert also owned and operated Big M Tow with the help of his wife and two eldest sons. Following his retirement, Robert and his wife moved to Stockton, MO. During his time there he served on the Ambulance Board. Returning to the city life in 2017. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Sue, his three sons, Robert Jr., Richard (Vickie) and Rand (Angela) and his daughter, Rhonda (James), his ten grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

His sisters, Sue, Lee, Janie (Ron) and Marsha (David), a sister in-law, Jean (Curt), a brother in-law, Tom (Debbie), cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Robert is preceded in death by his father, Jesse F., and mother, Mary Deslean, his sister, Mary and his son, Raymond.
