Virgil D. (Grumps) Baker, 81, of Lexington, joined his family in Heaven on April 11th, 2016.

Virgil was born on April 28th, 1934 in Farragut, Iowa to Harry and Margerie (Cloyd) Baker. He married Martha Jane (Howell) Baker, December 4, 1956. She Proceeded him in death on March 14th, 2008. Virgil also was proceeded in death by an infant son, (2) Daughters (Corey Elaine Baker Richardson and Marcie Diane Baker), and most recently his older son Jay Thomas Baker.
Virgil is survived by his daughter, Rhonda J. (Baker) Goucher and husband Jerry of Lexington. Six grandchildren, (Heather McRae, Autumn Ratliff, Jason Baker, Russell/Randy Baker, Ryan Michael Baker, and Sara Jean Baker). One Daughter-in-Law, Susan (Strange) Baker of Memphis, Tenn. Fifteen Great-Grandchildren (Holly Goucher, Shily Peck-Woessner, Max Goucher, Lee Rodriguez, Jenasyn Baker, Breeanne Ratliff, Trista McRae, Jolie Baker, Brooklyn Ratliff, Hailey McRae, Logan Spangler, Kaleb Baker, Trace, Kadyn Baker, and Joshua Spangler. In addition, Virgil is survived by one brother, Lowell Baker (Cindy Bartlett-Baker) of Iowa, and many nieces and nephews. His dog Cocoa will miss him too.
Virgil served in United States Military at the close of the Korean War. He had a colorful and busy life, from growing up on his beloved family farms to college to serving in military to running a gas station, school bus driver, and prep-cook in younger years. He became an Insurance Salesman in the Chicago Area and later transferred to the Raytown/Kansas City area. He went on to sell and build log homes throughout the United States while living in Florida. He obtained a Real Estate License in Lexington and built spec concrete homes as well as bought investment properties. He was devoted to the Lexington Lions Club, he was especially proud of his Melvin Jones Award and served as President till his passing. He was on the Transportation Committee, as well as served on various others. He believed in Community and Education.
The family will entertain an Open House on April 30, 2016 at their Home (4 Sunset Drive) from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm to remember the man known as Grumps. Private Service will be held in Iowa at later date. Charities Virgil favored as follows: Veterans, Heart Association, Saving Sight/Lions, and Education Scholarships.
