William “Art” Grote


William Arthur “Art” Grote of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly Friday, September 22, 2017.  Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 27th at Oak Grove United Methodist Church; burial in Concord Cemetery, Bates City, MO.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 26th at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove, MO. 

Art was born July 3, 1952, in Independence, Missouri, the son of William E. Grote Jr. and Ruth (Baker) Grote.  He graduated from Oak Grove High School and attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg.  Art retired from a 36-year career as an Ironworker, Local #10, in Kansas City, MO.  He enjoyed many friendships, and his golf and pool league buddies.

Survivors include his mother, Ruth Grote, and brother, Douglas E. Grote of Oak Grove; nieces, Taylor (Preston) Cumpton of Pleasant Hill, and Hope (Jason) White of Colorado Springs, CO; and step-sons, Tony (Melissa) Schwappach of Rockwall, TX, and Bryan (Emily) Schwappach of Lee’s Summit, MO.  Art was preceded in death by his father, William Grote, and brother, Gregory L. Grote.

Art was always optimistic, fun-loving, and never at a loss for something to say.  He was an extraordinarily caring person.  He was well-loved and will be missed.
