William Ernest Cumberford, Jr., 89, of Grain Valley, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.  Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 19^th at First Baptist Church of Oak Grove.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Oak Grove Youth & Children’s Department.

Will was born January 15, 1934, in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of William Ernest and Ruth Marie (Anderson) Cumberford.  He married Virgie Hindman on November 25, 1955, in Independence, MO.  Will worked in commercial construction until retiring in 1999.  He was a member and Deacon Emeritus of First Baptist Church of Oak Grove.  Will enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, and traveling in his RV.  He was a great family man who loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Will was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Sturg Cumberford; and sister, Shirley Morgenroth.

His survivors include his wife of 69 years, Virgie Cumberford of the home; four children: William E. Cumberford III (Starla) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Allison Dyer (Dean) of Lone Jack, MO, Ron Cumberford (Angie) of Lone Jack, MO, and Susan Cumberford of Lee’s Summit, MO; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
